Infinite Shuffle #4: I'll Just Dance

It'll be okay. DADA DOO DOO

Episode #4 of Infinite Shuffle!

Is this one month of Infinite Shuffle? That’s lit! Thank you for reading and sharing the most unpredictable newsletter out. Also, feel free to let me know on twitter what songs you add to your library.

Second thing, I’m making more Spotify playlists! Since I change the songs every week I will be making an archive of all of the songs that get put in the newsletter. I’ll also be making a separate one for samples. Love it? Love it. I’ll put them all at the bottom of the newsletter.

Artists of the week: Su Lee

On her Youtube Channel, Su Lee describes her music as “these songs are little story books of life.” Which makes more and more sense as you get used to her channel. Su Lee’s gorgeous voice paired with her quirky videos and great editing make her music a unique experience. She’s really great at making original songs that relate to you, but she also has a knack for making covers of popular songs and turning them into her own style.

It’s really inspiring stuff and I hope she becomes more popular in the years to come.

Projects of the week: These are not my songs

Aptly named, these are cover versions of songs… that are not hers. Her original songs are great for Youtube because the music videos go really well with her songs. All of her songs are great for your rotation. I can’t wait for more stuff from her.

Now here are your songs of the week.

You Got it - Vory

I’ve been playing this song for weeks, looking for the right time to put it in the newsletter. Formerly known as King Vory, Vory is an artist whose imprint in the industry goes beyond his own songs. His song writing credits include Bryson Tiller’s “Don’t”, Post Malone’s “On the Road”, Drake’s “Mob Ties” and more. I was shocked to know that I had already heard so much stuff that he’s written, and I was all the more excited to know that his own songs are just as fire. “You Got It” showcases an addicting song flow that reminds you of the other songs he’s written. Pair that with a dope music video and you have a winning formula.

I Know - Pink Sweat$

PinkSweat$ is so underrated in my book. I know his song “Honestly” is the big hit from him, but don’t sleep on his other shit. “I know” sounds like a Western ballad is about to begin and then BOOM, his voice hits you like a bullet from a Jonah Hex revolver. Yeehaw.

Bad Boy - Cascada

Did you know that Cascada isn’t the name of the singer, but rather part of a three-person group? Yup, I tell that fact at parties. I also tell people that they have more songs than just “Evacuate the Dance Floor” and “Everytime we Touch”. Bad Boy is also a great song off the album that was called *checks notes* Everytime we Touch”. Okay, i know the title is not helping my “They’re not a One-Hit Wonder” case but trust me you’ll love the album. It’s full of fun bangers. Cascada had a specific formula and they nailed it every time and you can fight me if you think otherwise.

I want your love - CHIC

Known best for “Le Freak” and “Good Times”, CHIC’s “I want your love” is an eternal jam that should get more credit. From the instrumentation to the constant hook. This is just under 4 minutes of pure bliss.

The Depths - Bobby Raps and Corbin

Remember Spooky Black? He goes by Corbin now, and he still sounds incredible. He was recently featured on “Not Fair” with THE KID LAROI and I was wondering “How many people know that this guy went by Spooky Black all those years ago.

Rebrand aside, his 2015 album with Bobby Raps called “Couch Potato” features some of the most haunting and hallowed singing I’ve heard. Corbin’s voice echoes throughout your headphones while talking about low points in life. The Depths is a real sad boy vibe, just like the rest of the project. Corbin releases music under the name Corbin Smidzik now so you can find his new stuff on that Spotify page or Soundcloud.

Stop, Look, Listen (To your heart) - The Stylistics (1971) // Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye (1974)

The thing I love about the older decades of work is how clear you can hear the actual instruments. There’s beauty in samples but there’s also beauty in just clear cut instrumentation. Also, there were so many covers back in the day that I’ll cover both. The Stylistics harmonize so well in their version, and Marvin Gaye and Diana Ross play off each other well in theirs. It’s really two different songs.

Famous - Octavian feat. Gunna and SAINT JHN

I’m here to talk about Octavian and Saint JHN. Gunna just Gunna’s it up as usual, but this was my first time listening to Octavian, and damn it I love this type of music. I gotta admit that Saint JHN steals the show, but I have no problem with that. Saint JHN is a straight-up superstar and I’m so glad that I got to see him in concert before all of this pandemic shit happened. One of these newsletters we’re going to talk about his Collection One project. But until that day comes, add this to your library.

Sample of the Week: The Flavor

We discussed video games from last week, now we’ll talk about anime samples. Yes. Anime samples. I’ll start simple with one of the more familiar Naruto songs. If you’ve seen the show you’ve heard this like 200 times.

Producer 6ix, turned that into this song by Dizzy Wright and SwizZz called “The Flavor”.

6ix usually produces for Logic and is one of the best samplers of our generation. I could make a newsletter just based off of his beats alone. I love it when producers have a pattern of inspiration when they sample shit they love and put it in a beat. 6ix’s interests are vast and varied, and his production matches that. That makes him truly one of the best producers in the game. I know Logic retired, but I hope that 6ix continues to bless us with his god-tier production for other artists.

That’s all for Infinite Shuffle Mode. Here are the playlists I was talking about in the beginning.

Then samples.

I also have a karaoke playlist
