Infinite Shuffle #27: Don't Lose The End Of The Road

YEEHAW! EPISODE 27!

Let’s get ready to build on the great energy of last week with some new music!

Artist of the week: Holly Humberstone

Ayo. Get familiar. With every song, the British musician captures your attention with lyrics that hit close to home paired with an excellent singing voice. Trust me when I say that she is going to be a superstar. Why do I think this?

Project of the week: Falling Asleep at the Wheel

These 6 songs are freaking spectacular. The music videos are great and I bet you will listen to these songs and instantly become a fan. This album sounds like the soundtrack to a really good movie that leaves you speechless when the credits roll. Then you and the other people you watched the movie with all replay their own life experiences in their head as y’all wait for someone to break the silence.

Love this project.

Songs of the week:

Chicago - 25 or 6 to 4

I think I first heard this song on a basketball mixtape, but I can’t remember which player or video it is. Nevertheless, 25 or 6 to 4 is a classic that you’ve probably heard from your school’s marching band or whatnot. Anyway, it’s elite and a great start for diving into 1970’s Rock in general.

Noga Erez - End of the Road

Noga Erez is talented as hell, and if you aren’t convinced turn to 1:45 because she is SPITTIN. Her new album KIDS comes out on March 26 and I’m amped to hear the rest of it. Lock in.

Peter Cetera - Glory Of Love

Apparently, this is in Karate Kid 2. A movie that I haven’t seen. However, hearing this song makes me feel like I’ve seen the movie. Does that make sense? It’s like when Django released that song with 2Pac and James Brown and you were like “Yup gunshots and killing on the western frontier”.

I’m going to be adding more 1980s stuff here as I dive deeper into that era of music.

Lou Phelps - Must Be

If his music sounds familiar to you, just know that this is Kaytranada’s brother. Kaytranada also produced this track. The chemistry between the two is great and I think it’s awesome that they can flow and work together so well.

The duo, known as The Celestics, released their project Supreme Laziness in 2014. I totally recommend giving it a listen if you like the song above. The duo also has a treasure trove of music on SoundCloud, both as solo acts and a duo.

Lil Uzi Vert - Grab The Wheel

2016 Lil Uzi was a simpler time. Before the world got crazy, I would play this song while on the metro to my internships or walking all over campus. I know we talk about the Summer of 2016 a lot, but it’s UNMATCHED.

Sample of the Week: Bill Medley, Jennifer Warnes - (I've Had) The Time Of My Life

When I was a kid, I thought the Black Eyed Peas music was so out there and experimental. I still think that. However, I’m always blown away by how much they sampled just because of how drastically different the music sounds afterward. For example, Will.I.am took this sample and turned it into (Dirty Bit).

I can not imagine Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes making this song and 23 years later hearing Dirty Bit and thinking that their music would ever be sampled in this form.

That’s the crazy part about music. We never know what its future will sound like.
