Infinite Shuffle #24: To the moon!

TO THE MOON!

What’s good shufflers and welcome back to another weekly newsletter. I hope you all had a great week. Valentine’s Day is coming up. Ew.

Artist of the week: Moonchild

I love them. If you ever need music to calm your nerves, help you focus, or feel more at peace then Moonchild is the group for you. The alt-r&b/neo-soul group has been on the scene for a while and for good reason. The trio just oozes talent as they all can play multiple instruments as evidenced by their stellar NPR Tiny Desk in 2019.

Amber Navran, Maximilian Bryk, and Andris Mattson have such incredible chemistry and a love for music that is so pure and contagious. It’s hard not to root for them

Project of the week: Voyager

This is my favorite Moonchild project. It’s 46 minutes of floating on heaven’s clouds. You have this ethereal instrumentation matched with Amber Navran’s serene vocals. My favorite songs from this project are Cure, Hideaway, and The List. However, all of the songs on this album are perfect and I will not hear otherwise.

Songs of the week

Pell - Dollar Store

I forgot how I came across this in 2014, but man I used to play this song every day. I was a freshman in college then, so it was a really cool song to play walking between classes and making new friends and such. His “Floating While Dreaming” album was very important to me at that time. I hope you find something in this project too.

MOD SUN (feat. Avril Lavigne) - Flames

The legendary Avril Lavigne is back to bless us with a voice that makes us want to wear all black and run through walls. More, please. Also, I’m old enough to remember when Mod Sun was known as a rapper.

Wow time really does fly.

6 Dogs feat. Lil Skies - Off The Gas

Earlier this year, the world lost 6 Dogs. The rapper infused a very chill vibe with catchy songs on top of transcendent outer space like production. His style and songs will continue to live on with us.

RIP 6 Dogs

Dua Lipa - Hallucinate

I can’t… stop… playing…. Dua Lipa… someone… pls… help… me…

QUIN, 6LACK - Mushroom Chocolate

Bruh every song 6lack touches turns to gold. I remember when Apple Music used to spam the shit out of his “PRBLMS” song on playlists, but he’s followed it up with hit after hit after hit. QUIN’s voice is incredible and I hope that she comes out with a full project soon. I recommend her 2019 project “LUCID”. It’s majestic.

Sample of the week: The Rolling Stones- Gimme Shelter

If you don’t know this song as a Rolling Stones song, but as the background music for “The Departed” intro that’s fine. Producer Nick Lewis took the intro, sampled it, and The UnderAchievers turned it into “The Proclamation”

From then, The Underachievers have actually achieved a lot. They’re members of Beast Coast, one of the most powerful collectives out today. They have been one of the more consistent duos out. Stop sleeping on them.

That’s all from me this week. Take care of yourself.
