Infinite Shuffle #19: Let's Party
2020 is over.
Whattup Shufflers? You made it to the end of the year! I hope you have a great set of goals or whatnot for the new year. Even if you don't that’s also fine. I’m launching a podcast in 2021 and I want you all to join me. My first guest is going to be my mom, so that’ll be fun. Be sure to leave a rating and review when you can and we’ll have a ball.
Artist of the week: Yung Pinch
Yung Pinch has been one of my favorite artists for a while now. Since finding his song “Look Like”, I have been impressed by his unique melodies and efforts as well. His ability to flow and use his voice to make songs is his standout feature. Working with Pouya, Wiz Khalifa and more the Beach Boy has established an impressive discography. The most impressive thing is that he’s only 23 years old so the best is yet to come.
Project of the week: 4EVERFRIDAY SZN TWO
There are a few Yung Pinch projects that could’ve gotten the nod here, but I decided to stick to “4EVERFRIDAY SZN TWO”. His 2018 effort has some of my favorite Pinch songs on them. Starting off with “20 Years Later”, the atmosphere transports you to a zone where Yung Pinch is ruler of all soundwaves and you’re okay with it. He has over 5 projects and EPs out so you’ll be able to find the songs that fit your vibe the best. For me that’s all of them.
Songs of the week!
Playboi Carti feat Kid Cudi: M3tamorphosis
I know Twitter was all like “Whole Lotta Red was mid”, but I remember people saying the same shit about “Die Lit” when that came out. I know it’s not 2017 Carti, but his life has changed so much since then that I wasn’t expecting that in the first place.
Whole Lotta Red is growing on me. The more I’ve been listening the more I’ve been liking it. I think what’ll happen is that people will try to imitate this sound and then we’ll go back to this project and be like “maybe he was ahead of the curve”’
I FEEL LIKE MORPHEUS. I can’t believe that Kid Cudi and Playboi Carti were on the same track. Two of the most experimental people in hip-hop history together. Incredible.
DJ Felli Fel ft. Diddy, Akon, Ludacris, Lil Jon - Get Buck In Here
This song is from 2007 and it’s still stuck in my head for some reason. Why does this song slap so much? What the hell happened to DJ Felli Fel? Who knows. This was during that stretch where Akon was unstoppable on every song he put out. This is honestly one of the more underrated collabs out there. There was DJ Khaled, and there was also DJ Felli Fel.
I remember.
Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa - Talent Show
We all know about the epic film “Mac & Devin Go to High School” which gave us the song “Young, Wild and Free”.
That’s not my favorite song on the soundtrack, however. I honestly believe that “Talent Show” is the better song. Both are great, but “Talent Show” is super smooth. You can tell that these two were enjoying the hell out of making this movie. The movie was ass but it was fun nonetheless.
Corinne Bailey Rae - Breathless
Corinne Bailey Rae’s songs are really perfect. I’m breathless just writing this part of the newsletter… get it? I’ll go now.
The Pink Spiders - Easy Way Out
This 2006 rock hit was on Madden 07 I think. This song was able to stand out in that epic soundtrack during RB drills and menu scrolling. 12 year old me always thought that soundtrack songs were what the cool kids into, then I realized that I was the cool kid so I was kind of right.
Sample of the week: Fall in Love (Your Funeral) - Erykah Badu
This delightful sounding song was flipped all the way on its head by the producer Randomblackdude. Randomblackdude is the producer alter-ego of Earl Sweatshirt. I love how he was able to now only sample the song, but completely change the attitude of the sound. Taking something that sounds so light and turning it into darkness personified. Earl’s career evolution has really been astounding and interesting to follow.
Grief by Earl Sweatshirt (2015)
