Infinite Shuffle #16: TELL ME WHY
Welcome to December!
Whattup Shufflers! Happy December! I hope you’re in the Christmas spirit and feeling great tidings and joy even in a world like this. I’m getting a new phone for Christmas, which is awesome! My dad joked that it’s my Christmas present, but to be 100% I’m fine with that. What do y’all want for Christmas?
Artist of the week: THEY.
THEY. are a musical duo consisting of Drew Love & Dante Jones. Their sound spans over a lot of genres due to their incredibly versatile and epic cohesion with their guests and features. Their list of collaborators ranging from Tinashe to Chromeo never seem like an awkward pairing as their smooth vocals and goated instrumentation blend perfectly with whoever is on the track.
My favorite songs from them are “What I know Now” by Wiz Khalifa and “18 months” featuring Ty Dolla $ign.
Project of the week: The Amanda Tape
This is a short 33-minute project that further showcases all the versatility I mentioned in the paragraph above in addition to their evolution over the years. Tinashe, Wale, and Juicy J are featured on this project, so that’s instantly a plus. If you’re a fan or nodding your head and vibing in your room while the LED-lights change in the background then you’ll love this project.
Did I recently buy LED lights for my room? Who’s to say?
Now it’s time for our songs of the week!
JUNE - A little messed up
I’ve been playing this song all week.
June doesn’t have many songs out, but I’m super excited for what’s to come from them. The lyrics to “A little messed up” cut deep and this song is catchy as hell. You’ll find yourself replaying this for weeks.
Juice WRLD feat. Benny Blanco - Real Shit
On what would have been his 22nd birthday, JUICE WRLD posthumously released “Real Shit” with a Benny Blanco feature. Juice and Blanco have a few songs together. Before this release, the pair worked on “Roses” with Brendan Urie and a new age spin on the “Graduation” song. I believe that Juice WRLD’s estate has hundreds of songs that are in a vault somewhere. If they want to share them that’s fine, if not that’s also perfectly understandable. When each release and animated music video comes out it reminds us all of the incredible talents that he possessed.
Connor Spiotto feat Molly Pease - The Villian I Appear to Be
I had just finished “The Queen’s Gambit” and this song seems like it belongs in one of the episodes even though all the music in that show was from the 1970s and earlier. Not the point. The point is that Connor Spiotto and Molly Pease went so hard on this song and the animation for this video is epic.
Fun fact: The animator now works for Lucasfilm!
AJR - BANG!
I’m sure many of you have heard this song and have heard of AJR. The reason why the song is here is due to the creativity of the music video. As a video editor, I love to try to figure out the optical illusions used to shoot things. It’s pretty cool how they zoom in on the three of them and when they zoom out the craps table looks completely different.
916frosty - soldiercomehome.wav
916frosty is one of my favorite new artists, but I have no idea if anyone I know knows about him. I’m here to change that. His hits like “Friday” and “enough” are great, but I have a special spot for soldiercomehome.wav. I guess I just like the strong structure and the dude’s sound. It’s so captivating.
HOLIDAY SONG OF THE WEEK: Whitney Houston and The Georgia Mass Choir - Joy To The World
No sample this week. I just wanted to say that this is the best version of “Joy To The World” and it’s not close.
