Infinite Shuffle #12: Saturday! IN THE PARK
I THINK IT WAS THE FOURTH OF JULYYYYYYYY
Hello Shufflers? It is I again, and let me say as someone that hasn’t left their house in a while… I haven’t left my house in a while. The only thing that’s gotten me through it is all the new music that dropped this Friday and older releases that I just started to get to get around to. Sometimes I get questions about “why I listen to certain artists” and to be honest I listen to a lot of stuff. Before Spotify lifted the song cap, I was often debating what songs to delete. It was annoying and I’m glad they got rid of that stupid limiter.
Artist of the week: SEATBELTS
I thought we should show some lost to OSTs (Original Sound Tracks) and I decided to go with the band responsible for one of the most recognizable sounds in anime. “Tank” is the anime opening for Cowboy Bebop. If you’re looking to get into anime and don’t know where to start, then this show is a great option.
SEATBELTS also got back together virtually during quarantine to jam on some of the classics.
PROJECT OF THE WEEK: COWBOY BEBOP (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
Even if you don’t end up watching the show, still add this album to your playlist. It features elite instrumentation that belongs in your library. My favorites are “Waltz for Zizi”, “Digging my Potato” and “Cat Blues”
Now let’s get to our songs of the week!
Dominic Fike - Vampire
Dominic Fike is talented as all hell and I can’t stop playing “Vampire” from his latest project “What could possibly go wrong”. I’ll be honest I haven’t gotten through the full project yet, but that’s because this song has been on a loop for the last 3 days. I love the fact that his actual girlfriend is in the video and that he does his own stunts.
David Pack - I Just Can’t Let Go
This sounds like a perfect Karaoke ballad, but I know that no one my age in the bar would recognize the song because it’s underrated and from 1985. WELL I’LL HAVE YOU KNOW that David Pack went off on this song. As a former singer from the band “Ambrosia”, David Pack’s solo efforts give off such the same vibes.
Pack’s lovely voice echoes out into your headphones and puts you into another dimension. It’s riveting stuff. Check it out.
Zack Fox - Stick
If Zack Fox wanted to, he could be a top rapper in the game. The entertainer/comedian has been dipping his toes into music briefly from “Jesus is the One” to “Square Up” and “The Bean Kicked In” Fox provides special energy and pairs them with hilariously hard lyrics. Stick is his latest effort where he hilariously says lines like…
“Know where to exit (What?), what the fuck? In the crib (What?) with a shirt and no pants, Donald Duck”
YEAH, WE NEED AN ALBUM.
Alina Baraz - I don’t even know why though
Alina Baraz doesn’t miss. The singer’s hypnotic, soothing voice can put anyone who listens at ease. My favorite song of hers is “I Don’t Even Know Why Though”. A slow banger of a track that I dance to in my room.
Check out her recent album “It was Divine” for some more great work.
Trevor Daniel - Come Over
Trevor Daniel’s most popular song is “Falling”. A 2018 song that blew up thanks to TikTok. I am here to say that the kid is not a one-hit-wonder and that he’s been making consistently excellent music for two years. This is a great example of something that is slept on for years, but when people eventually find it the quality is still there so the benefits still occur.
Take a lesson in that when you feel discouraged by numbers or analytics. Your time will come.
The Trevor Daniel song that I want to focus on is “Come Over”. A more uptempo vibe compared to Falling. I just love the bass on this. It’s produced by Internet Money, so the high production quality is not a surprise.
Trevor Daniel and Internet Money have been a great pairing for each other and I hope they keep making music together.
SAMPLE OF THE WEEK: This Is How We Do It by Montell Jordan
This week’s sample is pretty simple. It’s actually more of a remix. The Montell Jordan cut was turned into a faster version by Joe Stone.
I’m not asking you to like this more than the original. That’s just blasphemy. BUT I will say that I will dance to either song with no regrets.
Oh, I almost forgot. This song also samples Surrender Your Love by the Nightcrawlers feat. John Robinson Reid.
