Infinite Shuffle #11: That's the way of the WRLD

City shady with a passion, what we heard today

WHAT IS UP SHUFFLERS! WELCOME TO SATURDAY! I think we’ve reached 2,000 subscribers and that’s honestly dope as hell. Thank you to everyone who signed up. Also, don’t be afraid to tell me what hit for you and what didn’t! I love the feedback.

Artist of the week: Denzel Curry

Since 2013, Denzel Curry has been one of the most consistent rappers in the game. From his lyricism to his flow and freestyle ability he is truly the complete package. Even outside of music, he’s just full of energy, and every interview or piece of content I’ve seen he’s been hilarious and fun. I actually went to his surprise concert with him and Kenny Beats at the China Chalet in New York and let me tell you it was an experience. Everyone in the crowd beforehand was just bonding over their favorite Curry songs over the years. It was really one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to.

I also want to show you his cover of “Bulls on Parade”. Simply sensational.

PROJECT OF THE WEEK: Imperial (2016)

Believe it or not, I had FIVE projects to choose from for his project of the week. Yes, he’s that good. I decided to stick to the one that matches my energy the most and Imperial is that. That 4-Banger stretch of ULT-Gook-Sick & Tired-Knotty Head is ELITE. 2016 was a special year for Curry. Between dropping this, making the XXL Freshmen list, and being on the most iconic cypher in the magazine’s history he had a lot going for him that year.

His career has only taken off from then, and strong solid projects like this are why.

Now for our songs of the week!

Earth, Wind & Fire - That’s the way of the world

This is one of the few vinyls that I own. I can’t have that many expensive habits out here but I do have this record. While everyone replays ‘Shining star’ on commercials and movies and whatnot, I love ‘That’s the way of the world’. It’s 5+ minutes of pure bliss.

I know that one day there will be a generation that will only know of their song “September” through meme culture, but it is our duty to remember and further immortalize their discography so that they can continue to live on in movies like The Nice Guys and Happy Feet.

Drax Project & Fetty Wap (feat. AACACIA) - Firefly

Fetty Wap had a HISTORIC 2014-2015 run, and it’s good to see artists that stick around, experiment and reinvent themselves. The music industry chews up and spits out artists like no other, so I understand if Fetty Wap fell off your radar. I’m here to say that I’m glad that he is showing up on songs like this albeit very briefly. What an interesting collaboration here. I’m all for more of these.

I’m learning more about Drax Project too so I’ll report back in the newsletters to come.

MIKE - No , No

One of the smoothest flows I’ve ever heard. MIKE be going OFF and his production is on point all the time. ‘No, No’ is my favorite song of his so far as the beat is heavenly. It samples “Too Sweet To Lose” by Donald O’conner and it’s such a nice sample snipe honestly.

MIKE’s chill vibes and powerful lyrics make him a must-add for your library.

Albert King - I’ll play the Blues For you pt.1

BLUES LEGEND ALBERT KING IS ON THIS NEWSLETTER BECAUSE I’VE BEEN PLAYING GUITAR SONGS ALL WEEK AND THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST BLUES SONGS OF ALL TIME TRUST ME.

Teedra Moses & Kaytranada: Be Your Girl

One of the best Kaytranada collaborations. This Teedra Moses remix is infectious and pure. Get both versions of the song. One’s for vibing and one’s for dancing.

It’ll have you singing “AND IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII WONDER IF YOU EVEN NOTICE MEEEEEE. See even Google is hip.

Sample of the week: Shape of my heart - STING

Nick Mira is one of the best producers of the new generation. He has an entertaining stream where he makes beats live that turn into hits later. It’s cool to watch a stream of his and then see Lil Tecca hop on the beat months later for its release. Mira’s most recognizable beat is easily “Lucid Dreams” which comes from a sample of Sting’s solo work.

With this sample, Juice WRLD turned it into one of the most recognizable anthems for this generation. One of the most beautiful 4 minutes of all time.

Juice WRLD was so fucking talented man. From his songwriting, ear for beats and the fact that he could actually freestyle for HOURS. I’m not exaggerating either.

He’s a true generational talent and every new Youtube upload, project, leak and song breaks my heart at the thought that he’s not with us. Since not every release of his is on Spotify, I made a special Soundcloud playlist just for him.

RIP Juice WRLD.
