Hello everyone. It’s me again. Inspired, on vacation, and unsure about what to do with content creation. Seeing Twitch, Tiktok, and Youtube stuff up in the air is very nerve-wracking at times. Fortunately, I usually blow off steam by singing karaoke. When I lived in New York for 2.5 years I went to this place called Dromedary Urban Tiki Bar almost every Thursday to sign karaoke. Now this was a karaoke bar, where you had to win over the crowd by putting on a good performance.

I find something so satisfying about going up on a “stage” and bringing the house down. Once you get the entire bar to sing with you or get their attention the karaoke private rooms will never hit the same again.

Now some of you are asking the question. “Kofie did you sing the same song every week?”

NO. I tried to sing a different song every time. Sometimes I would get cold feet and sing the hits but I always wanted to push the envelope with my karaoke. Now there are people reading this asking “Kofie, I’ve never sung karaoke what should I sing?”

Now it’s not that simple, but I do hope I can get you closer to finding the perfect song for you.

“I can’t sing”

You don’t have to be able to sing, that’s the whole point. Sometimes the people that sing super well don’t bring the house down because that feels as if you brought an NBA player to a pickup game. Yeah, you dominated but you’re not supposed to be here.

Now if you can’t sing that’s totally fine! With that being said, maybe try choosing a song that doesn’t involve that. While it’s not about singing well, there’s something eerie about making Mariah Carey's high notes sound like Garfield if he did the Hot One’s Challenge. There are so many workarounds for this.

Try a hip-hop song!

Try a song with a few high notes. Who knows?

Energy over everything.

Now when you pick a karaoke song, remember that no one will give a single shit about how you do if you bring the energy. If you’re having fun, everyone will feed off of the energy. So that brings us to my favorite categories.

Any 2000s radio song.

If we heard it on the radio in middle school back in 2006, it’s probably going to bring the house down.

Pop punk

Country?

(Read the room first)

There are many more genres that you can go with that will bring the house down. Now the last rule is a personal one of mine but

No songs over 4 minutes.

Usually, when you’re at these spots there’s a line, so don’t pick “Stairway To Heaven”. We all know it’s a classic but we don’t want to hear YOU do an 8-minute rendition of it. Rock the Stage don’t hog the stage. Also, some karaoke versions of songs just cut off after a while so don’t be surprised if you can’t get through every verse of “Through the Fire and the Flames”
